1. Can this series possibly top that ending we just saw?“You’re 5 years old in the backyard right there,” Freddie Freeman said on the FOX broadcast, moments after he hit a walk-off grand slam to win Game 1 of the World Series and seconds before his teammates poured a bucket of Gatorade on his head. There were immediately many comparisons to Kirk Gibson’s home run off Dennis Eckersley to win Game 1 of the 1988 World Series for the Dodgers, but, honestly, Freeman’s homer stands on its own.
Teoscar Hernandez also went deep — a two-run shot right before Freeman — as did Tommy Edman in the second inning, giving the Dodgers their second-most home runs (24) in a single postseason in franchise history. The win gives the Dodgers a commanding 2-0 lead with the series shifting to New York for Game 3 on Monday. — Jesse Rogers

Treinen was at his usual limit, just over 20 pitches, when he got through the meat of the Yankees lineup in the bottom of the eighth, easing the burden on Walker Buehler, who came out of the pen — two days after starting Game 3 — to get the save in the bottom of the ninth.
Aaron Judge had not made an error all season until the fifth inning of World Series Game 5. That’s when he dropped a lazy liner from Tommy Edman that also allowed Enrique Hernández to reach second base with nobody out.
Oh, and there’s one additional cheery note about that feat. We’re not just asking that question about postseason games. In fact, the Yankees are the first team to have a game like that in any game in the last 112 seasons — postseason or regular season!
Gerrit Cole was excellent over 6.2 innings, but some poor defense from the Yankees — including Cole himself — led to five unearned runs in the fifth. The Dodgers then took the lead for good in the eighth and got a stunning performance from their bullpen, especially Blake Treinen and Walker Buehler, to close it out.
“It’s the beauty of baseball,” he said. “That’s why the people who say: ‘Oh, they script out the games,’ you haven’t ever watched baseball if you think that. The games play out in all kinds of crazy ways. And tonight was maybe the crown jewel of that statement.”
